report Breckfield travelled down to Essex on the morning but nonetheless they started brightly and looked much more tidy in possession than their hosts but they found it hard to turn their ascendancy into shots on goal as some resolute, and at times desperate, defending kept the scores level. Breckfield eventually got the goal they deserved when a couple of quick passes found a gaping hole in the Potter Street defence and a clinical finish saw them take the lead. The lead was relatively short lived though as a careless free kick was given away and Dan Crook stepped up to drill the direct free kick in to the top corner from 30 yards. Half-rime 1-1. The second half was still largely dominated by the visitors though Potter Street's defence continued to hold strong however an attempted block of a shot saw a foul on a Breckfield player and a penalty was awarded; the Breckfield right back took the kick but he placed his kick wide of the upright. Breckfield did eventually retake the lead however as a goal mouth scramble found a striker 6 yards out to sweep home. Potter Street were forced into a substitution late in the second half when a clash of heads saw their captain, Ashley Alderson, taken off to receive 8 stitches above his eye. Substitute Robert Redington had barely had a touch of the ball when he found himself on the Breckfield 6 yard line to pass the ball home for the leveller and the game went to extra-time. Extra-time was relatively uneventful until the 120th minute when a good save by Potter Street 'keeper Iain Huckett resulted in an apparent open goal for a Breckfield player but despite a crisp shot, Potter Street's Dan Crook managed to volley the ball off of the goal line to see the game decided by penalty kicks. Breckfield
took the first kick and Iain Huckett went the right way to save it. 0-0. The game was played in a tremendous spirit and both teams were a credit to their respective leagues. Team from

report Potter Street dominated the first half and opened the scoring early in the first half when Dan Crook saw the Romans 'keeper off his line and an accurate finish from 30 yards saw the ball sneak in via the crossbar. Lewis Hayter doubled the lead when he was afforded time in the box to set himself and curl the ball into the top corner. Jack Hayter concluded the first half scoring for Potter Street when he out-jumped a defender and the 'keeper to head home from 6 yards out. 3-0 to Potter Street at half-time. Romans made a spirited start to the second half and got a goal back when they reacted quickest to a parried save by Iain Huckett and they briefly thought of a comeback but Jack Hayter scored again shortly afterwards to restore the 3 goal margin and from then on Potter Street looked comfortable. James Waggitt scored Potter Street's fifth with a tap-in after some good wide play stretched the Romans defence to leave him unmarked. Final score 5-1 to the boys in blue! Team from

report Three Churches looked the more lively of the two teams for the first period but neither team forced their opponent's respective 'keeper to make any saves of particular note. 0-0 at half-time. Potter Street had the better of the second half but it took a penalty to bring the goal. Steve Cody was bundled over on the edge of the box for the award of the kick and when Jack Hayter's penalty was parried away Steve reacted quickest and prodded home what proved to be the game's only goal. Three Churches were rightly awarded a penalty of their own with 15 minutes to go but Potter Street were disappointed with the decision to send off Andy Clark for a handball that, in their opinion, did not deny a definite goal scoring opportunity. Iain Huckett saved the spot kick and Potter Street saw out the remaining minutes to claim their third successive clean sheet. Team from

report Within 5 minutes of the restart Potter Street took the lead; Steve Cody scored with an accurately placed finish from the edge of the area that saw the visiting ‘keeper unable to do anything but watch as it nestled in the top corner. As both teams began to tire towards the end of the match, and as the visiting team looked to draw the scores level, Potter Street looked to hit on the counter attack and the decisive 2nd goal came with 15 to go when James Waggitt found himself with a lot of space on the left flank. He cut inside and finished with aplomb to score his first goal for Potter Street. Final score 2-0. Team from

report Potter Street's opener came after some good sustained possession but limited clear cut chances and Dan Crook's long range volley was the type of goal that the home team could do little to have thwarted - #Possible Goal of the Season! 1-0 to Potter Street at half time. Croxley showed a little more adventure in the second half but they struggled to create a decent chance with the exception of the odd set piece. Dan Crook completed the scoring for Potter Street with a well timed run through the heart of the Croxley defence and a cool finish past the onrushing 'keeper. 2-0 to PSBCFC at full time. Team from

report Despite an early morning call to rope in an 11th player, and a couple of players playing in less familiar positions, Potter Street started the game brightly and took the lead 15 minutes in through an uncharacteristically accurate left foot curling shot from Andy Kitson. Potter Street doubled their lead shortly afterwards when a goal mouth scramble saw Jack Hayter notch his first of the game. More chances were created but squandered and Kings Sports reduced the deficit before Dan Crook burst forward from midfield to restore the 2 goal lead. Half-time score 3-1 to the visitors. The second half was a similar affair and Ashley Alderson scored Potter Street's fourth with a powerful header that flew into the top corner. Jack capitalised on a goalkeeping fumble to slot home from a tight angle to score Potter Street's fifth and then Jack completed his hat-trick via a penalty kick. Final score 6-1 to PSBCFC. Team from

report Potter Street took the lead, somewhat against the run of play, in the first half through a Steve Cody goal though whether he intended the finish is open to debate! The most significant event of the first half happened at the end of the period when Darran Griffiths was crudely tackled and despite earning a free kick and the offending player receiving a booking Potter Street were forced to see out the remaining 45 minutes with 10 men. Potter Street started the second half resiliently and looked to hit the hosts on the counter attack but a soft free kick awarded on the edge of the Potter Street box resulted in the equaliser. Writtle's second was more debatable as the ball was kicked out of David Redington's grasp and the free kick deserved was not awarded. Writtle's third came towards the end of play and was, in fairness, a well struck shot from the edge of the box. Team from

report Potter Street started the game well and looked to be the more likely to open the scoring but Christ Church held off the advances of the home teams and took the lead after a mix up between David Redington and Andy Clark. Potter Street seemed to avoid letting this setback put them off and after a very good shout for a penalty was turned down another, more clear cut, offence on James Waggitt led to the first of three penalties for Potter Street and Dan Crook slotted home for his first goal since taking a central midfield role. 1-1 at half time. The second half saw Christ Church match Potter Street in the early exchanges but another penalty gave the boys in blue the chance to take the lead. Dan again stepped up but his spot kick bounced back off the crossbar and the scores remained level. When Potter Street were awarded their third penalty of the game Paul Baker took the responsibility and although the 'keeper got a glove on it there was sufficient power for it to nestle in the back of the net for Potter Street to take the lead. As both teams began to tire Potter Street were hopeful of avoiding the last minute drama of the last league game of the previous season and when Paul danced through 4 tackles and chipped the ball over the Christ Church number one for a decisive third the team mobbed him as though he'd scored a winner at Wembley! It is probably worth noting that this could already be the "Goal of the Season" winner and Iain Huckett staked his claim on the miss of the season when he failed to get the ball in the back of the net from 6 yards with the net open!!! report The second half saw Potter Street take the ascendancy in terms of attacking threat and they were bizarrely denied a stonewall penalty when Dan Crook was felled with the ball nowhere in sight but a corner was awarded!?! Andy Martin also had an excellent opportunity to give Potter Street the lead but managed to miss the target from close range. Three Churches had their own chances and again the post denied them on one occasion before they eventually retook the lead with a well placed shot from the edge of the box. Potter Street pushed for the equaliser to try to retain their undefeated league run from the previous season however when Dan Crook was denied by an excellent fingertip save from the visiting 'keeper it was clear that this wasn't going to be their day. Final score 2-1 to Three Churches. Though there were some good performances from the Potter Street players it was obvious that they hadn't played any preseason matches as the cohesive unit that had ended with a cup final victory last season looked disjointed and lethargic. |
